Hey friends! Hope you’ve had a wonderful holiday season! With 2019 approaching quickly, I’ve been thinking a lot lately about my aspirations for this new year. I feel like the new year can be an excellent time for us to regroup, renew, and refocus our attention on our aspirations, and important areas of our lives. With that said though, I also feel like the idea of the new year can sometimes feel a bit overwhelming. Many times we put too much weight on our New Years resolutions or set goals that are incredibly difficult to attain. If you have ever felt this way let me tell ya, you’re definitely not alone, I have too. One important lesson I’ve had to learn this year is that if you try to accomplish every goal that you have for your life all at once, it will be very difficult to achieve any one of them. That is why we must narrow our focus on what specific goals we want to achieve, and what steps we must take in order to achieve them. For the reason, I am choosing to start small this year, and I encourage you to do the same. By this I mean I will work to achieve my goals by taking small, attainable steps towards them. By doing this I will first achieve my small goals, and then slowly work my way up to accomplishing my larger goals. If you have something on your heart that you want to achieve this year, here’s my advice to you:
- Most good things take time. Don’t give up on something you are passionate about just because you aren’t receiving the instant gratification you wish for. Your hard work may not always be followed by instant results and THAT’S TOTALLY OKAY! Give it some time and keep working hard. You’ll be glad you did in the end!
- Start small. Achieve your goals by making small changes in your life to help you get there. For example, if you were training to run a marathon, you wouldn’t run 26.2 miles on your very first try. You would first run a couple miles and slowly build your way up to the full marathon. Your other goals work the same way! Start by setting small, attainable goals that will help you achieve your larger ones.
- Go for it. If you have an idea and you’re passionate about it, just go for it! The worst thing that could happen is that it doesn’t work out and you end up with a good story to tell 🙂 If you know that this is something you are meant to do, and you feel a calling in your life to do it, give it a try! You never know what could happen unless you try!
- Don’t compare yourself to others. Everyone is on their own journey, and everyone achieves their goals at different times, so don’t judge yourself negatively because you’re not as (fill in the blank) as the girl next to you. Be happy for her successes and build her up. Your time will come. Just keep doin’ you and being the best person you will be, and you will achieve your goals.
- Get a planner. Planners have made it SO much easier for me to organize my goals, and just my life in general. If you write down everything you need to do in a planner, you won’t forget things, and can organize your time effectively. Both of these things are super important in setting and achieving goals!
- Be kind. This one may not be super directly related to setting goals, but in order to be successful at anything you do in life, always be kind. You never know what someone else may be going through, or what battles they face, but kindness will always help, in any situation. Always. 🙂
and with that, have a happy new year!! I truly hope this one is the best one yet for you, and that you will be able to achieve many of your goals! Let me know in the comments below, what are your goals for 2019? and what are you most excited for this year?
